SO IT’S BEEN A YEAR…..

and we are slowly getting footage in, remembering what was and being in what is and sometimes…dreaming about a future move with some or all of the cast…(at least i am…)

kickstarter finally finished except for a few returned envelopes or non responses. i have rested. everyone is spread out, yet the ripple effect of the unearthing is continuing, in very interesting ways.

La Constancia presentará la obra de danza teatro The UNEARTHING

los días Jueves 19 y Viernes 20 de Abril a las 7pm.

The UNEARTHING es un proyecto artístico que mezcla danza y teatro junto con música en vivo dentro de un espacio público. La pieza está apoyada por Performática: Foro Internacional de Danza Contemporánea y Artes de Movimiento, Festival 5 de Mayo y por Puebla Ciudad Mural. The UNEARTHING conecta a las necesidades del mundo con la voz de la comunidad. Enfocándose en los temas de Energía e Intercambio, Fronteras y Desenterrar el Pasado, esta obra otorgará a las audiencias poblanas un experiencia hermosa y memorable. Un proyecto de intercambio binacional, trayendo consigo a bailarines y músicos de varias partes de México y Estados Unidos, comenzó en Charlottesville, Virginia, a principios del año 2012. Por medio de la generosa contribución de diver sos escultores, carpinteros, mecánicos, artistas de cine, negocios locales y grupos locales de acción ambiental, The UNEARTHING presentó una serie de impresionantes funciones ante las audiencias de Virginia, siempre con el “teatro” lleno. Al mismo tiempo, el proyecto otorgó múl t iples tal leres comuni tar ios. Completando el intercambio, la pieza se ha situado en La Constancia, para invitar a la gente a ser parte de una búsqueda migratoria por medio de las ruinas de la vieja fábrica. Se espera que los espectadores se muevan a través del espacio y estén de pie durante toda la representación, de modo que zapatos cómodos son muy recomendables. Zap McConnell, directora artística, comenzó como maestra invitada en la Universidad de las Américas Puebla, creando trabajos experimentales con bailarines y músicos en el año 2008. La pieza actual es su esfuerzo de reunir a colaboradores de México, Virginia y C a l i for ni a , a r t i s t a s altament e comprometidos y talentosos para llevar a cabo este proyecto. El elenco de The UNEARTHING ha estado enseñando, bailando, dando funciones y explorando el poder que tienen los discursos escénicos para exponer nuestras historias más profundas. ¡Esta es una obra que nadie debe perderse!

Esta travesía comenzará en punto de las 7pm en la Ex Fábrica Textil La Constancia (ubicada en el Blvd. Esteban de Antuñano, frente al Restaurante El Sindicato). La entrada no tiene costo alguno, sin embargo, cualquier donativo será destinado en parte al proyecto Puebla Ciudad Mural.

and not all of the original crew (we miss them dearly!!!!)——we are super busy finalizing the actual location of our performance, figuring out all of our workshops in addition to teaching and participating in the incredible international dance festival: PERFORMATICA!!!!!! while creating ways to support Xananentla and Puebla Ciudad Mural Project!

there are exciting things in the works that have sent us dreaming…we looked at the awe inspiring space in an old refurbished textile factory LA CONSTANCIA and are in a dialoge with them about how we might have the mexican UNEARTHING there…and are breathlessly crossing our fingers…no matter what, the space is incredible and they are doing amazing cultural artistic education there..talk about dreaming and then making it real!

we miss marco so much ( for so many reasons…) and will have to make do with all of our small cameras and slow ways as we also add on many locations in Xananetla and Cholula and Puebla to make a mexican dance film of THE UNEARTHING!

we are also soaking up the warmth and culture of puebla and enjoying the beauty and a little shaking from the earth quake…all is well and we are excited for the second faze of THE UNEARTHING!!! more later!!!!!

Tickets are on sale now for The UNEARTHING, an international exchange, site-specific installation, and dance theater performance at the Ix complex running from Feb. 1-12. Balancing complex subjects with intriguing entertainment is the goal of the UNEARTHING, as we tackle the themes of: energy, exchange, borders and unearthing the past. After it’s premier this winter in Charlottesville, the UNEARTHING will travel to Mexico in the spring to participate in the International Dance Festival PERFORMATICA (http://www.performatica.org/ ) and support the community of Xananetla, through Mural Ciudad (http://pueblaciudadmural.wordpress.com/) as the exchange is complete with the USA cast experiencing the rich culture in Puebla.

We expect these suckers to sell fast, so go ahead and reserve yours today. It’s $20/ticket, or $15 for students/seniors. If that’s still too steep for your budget, consider coming to either of our Wednesday Pay-What-You-Can shows. Those tickets must be purchase in person at our space in the Ix complex.
